WatchCat Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 7, 2026
What WatchCat does
WatchCat is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension that helps you understand and limit your watch time on supported entertainment and social sites. It can detect active viewing, count watch time locally, show inline stats, and display a blocking overlay when your daily limits are reached.
WatchCat does not require an account. The extension is designed to work on your device using Chrome extension storage.
Data stored locally
WatchCat stores extension data in chrome.storage.local on your device. This may include:
- User settings, such as enabled sites, limits, and blocking preferences.
- Daily watch-time statistics for supported sites.
- Watched item metadata or titles used to show local history and stats.
- Unlock overrides when you temporarily bypass a limit.
- An optional PIN hash and salt, if you enable PIN protection. The PIN itself is not stored as plaintext.
Data we do not collect
The current free version of the WatchCat extension does not send your watch-time data, watched titles, settings, unlock activity, or PIN data to the developer. We do not operate an extension account system, and we do not use extension analytics or network tracking in the current version.
This privacy policy describes the WatchCat Chrome extension. Visits to this website are separate from extension usage and may be handled by normal website hosting infrastructure. Website behavior does not give us access to your local extension data.
Chrome permissions and why they are used
- storage — saves your local settings, daily watch-time stats, watched item metadata, unlock overrides, and optional PIN hash data.
- alarms — runs local scheduled checks and resets, such as daily watch-time limit periods.
Host permissions and supported sites
WatchCat requests host permissions only for supported sites so it can detect viewing activity, count local watch time, show inline stats, and display the block overlay. The supported host permissions are:
*://*.youtube.com/**://*.netflix.com/**://*.twitter.com/**://*.x.com/**://*.tiktok.com/*
These permissions are not used to collect browsing data for sale, advertising, or remote profiling.
PIN and security note
If you enable a PIN, WatchCat stores only a hash and salt locally. The PIN is not stored as plaintext. Because the data is local to your browser profile, anyone with access to your browser profile or device may be able to affect extension settings or storage.
Data sharing and sale
We do not sell WatchCat extension data. We do not share your local watch-time data, watched item metadata, settings, unlock overrides, or PIN hash data with third parties.
User control and deletion
You control the extension data stored in your browser. To delete WatchCat extension data, uninstall the extension or clear the extension's Chrome storage from your browser profile.
